Dinero, Billy or e-conomic — or a bookkeeper?

Dinero, Billy and e-conomic are solid accounting programs — but they all assume you do the bookkeeping yourself. Here's the honest comparison: what you get, what you still have to do, and when a bookkeeper with the software included is the better choice.

What you get in DIY accounting software

The programs are mature and widely used: you can send invoices, upload receipts, see a VAT summary and reconcile the bank with built-in tools. Prices typically run from free to around DKK 400/month depending on the plan — the cheapest tiers are often limited, so many end up on a paid plan.

What you still have to do yourself

  • Book every single receipt — with the right account and VAT code
  • Reconcile the bank so the books actually balance
  • Calculate and file VAT with the Tax Agency before the deadline
  • Store receipts correctly under the Bookkeeping Act
  • Find a bookkeeper or accountant for the annual report if you run an ApS

The math: free is rarely free

The software is the cheap part. The expensive part is your hours: most owners spend several hours a month on bookkeeping, VAT and receipt chaos — hours that could have been billable or free. And mistakes in VAT or posting typically cost more to clean up than the bookkeeping would have cost to do right.

The alternative many choose is paying a bookkeeper on top of the software — at DKK 400–700 per hour. The combined bill quickly passes DKK 1,000 a month.

The alternative: a bookkeeper with the software included

At Numina the math is flipped: you pay one fixed price from DKK 399/month — roughly the same as a paid software plan alone — and get both the accounting software and a bookkeeper who does the work. Bookkeeping, bank reconciliation and VAT filing are included, and AI does 90% of the heavy lifting, which is why the price can be this low.

When is DIY the right choice?

Honest answer: if you have very few receipts, enjoy working with numbers and have the time — Dinero, Billy and e-conomic are fine tools. DIY makes the most sense when your time isn't the bottleneck. But if you earn more per hour at your trade than the bookkeeping costs to have done, the math is simple.
